The Battle to Battle for PPRAE! is tonight! I hope everyone’s getting their queues ready! 

The theme poll is closing at 6pm EST, but it’s looking like we’ll be having an acoustic battle.

This is gonna be so much fun!
Don’t be scared to participate. Although this is a battle, it’s all in good fun.

-No electric guitar at all.
-piano/acoustic is cool
-No repeats. Pay attention. Everything that gets played will be posted on Facebook.
-3 songs per DJ.
-5 DJs per round. Most awesome per round will advance to the finals, on a date TBA.

On Monday, April 9th, Pop Punk/Rock/Alternative/Emo is holding a battle to battle for our honor!

Each participating DJ will have a limit of 3 songs to get as many awesomes as they can! To level out the playing field, our battle will have a theme. We’ve got a poll going, to determine what the theme will be. The poll will be open until 6pm EST on Monday. At that time, PPRAE will announce via twitter, tumblr, and facebook what the Battle Theme will be.

The battle will start promptly at 8PM EST on Monday. We will keep going until everyone who signed up has had a chance to compete.

The most awesomed DJs from each round will advance to the finals.

Finals will be held on a yet-to-be-determined date.

Wow, last night’s Taking Back Sunday party for the 10th birthday of Tell All Your Friends was SO MUCH FUN! Quite the sing-a-long we had, while we shared memories from the past decade. TAYF is such a deep album, it truly is a common thread through all of us. [spotify playlist of the TBS afterparty]

Tonight we’ve got a New Release Triple Header! Beginning around 9pm EST we will be listening to I The Mighty’s Karma Never Sleeps, The Used’s Vulnerable, and The Mars Volta’s Nocturniquet.

Thank you to everyone who listens to the songs I play! It really is an honor to hold it down for Underground and Independent Rock, and Alternative Hip-Hop! In a world of Dubstep, Mainstream Rock, and Top 40 Hits… I stick to spinning the shit that deserves to be heard. I can’t convey how happy it makes me when folks begin to support the artists I play.

That site will be a spot for free music that we come across and would love to share. Tons of music variety, just no dubstep. Most of the music is actually hosted on bandcamp, so all downloads on this site are 100% legal. There’s not much of a selection currently, as the site was launched just two days ago. Definitely bookmark it though. We’ve got a solid group of posters, with great taste, from different areas of the country.

Taking Back Sunday’s debut album Tell All Your Friends came out 10 years ago today

An album that shaped the things to come for the music scene, Tell All Your Friends became a sensation among those who bought it, borrowed it, or downloaded it from Kazaa or Limewire. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been involved in singalongs on car rides to this entire album. I’m not even a person who remembers lyrics that well but I can surely recite every lyric from this album. It’s amazing the amount of emotion that is caught within Tell All Your Friends and the amount of emotion that hits the listeners ears. With the blistering single “Cute Without the ‘E’” that grabbed me as I sat and watched its music video on MTV2, I instantly went out and bought the record. Over the years, I’ve learned of many stories that surround this album that are eerily similar to mine and many stories that are tragic and sad. If there were a few albums that define the generation it came out to, this album will definitely be in the top 3.

I can say for everyone here at Based on Nothing that we’re glad that this album is remembered 10 years later and hope that it’s the same when it becomes 20 years.
